Publication of the Study "Lutherische Identität. Lutheran Identity"

The study "Lutheran Identity" is a contribution of the Institute for Ecumenical Research in Strasbourg to the worldwide self-understanding of the Lutheran churches. In three series of theses, the basic theological convictions of the Lutheran churches are first named, explained and placed in historical and current contexts.

Furthermore, the relationship of the Lutheran churches to the unity of the church is discussed and its articulation in the Lutheran World Federation and its ecumenical commitment is presented. Finally, contemporary challenges of Lutheran churches are considered in depth in an ecumenical perspective. The study aims to stimulate Lutheran churches to reflect further on a clear, historically well-grounded, self-critical and welcoming understanding of their identity.
